i will be using it to download stuff,using my ipod with it,mp3s,video,nothing professional,surfing the web..what do you think of it

heres the specs of the one i put together

Dude, you could get a Dimension 2400 for less than $500, maybe $400. None of the tasks there require anything heavy-duty.

It doesn't really have a nice graphics card, though it would hold up to all you need easily.
 
Sounds good, but I'd check Compaq, too. When I was looking around, they usally had comparable systems with AMD processors for less. I think intel's were a little cheaper too, but I didn't bother looking into those as much...
 
I got the same system this week from Dell. Cost was 883.00 shipped. But I got separate 16x drives for reading and recording/burning stuff and my HD is only 160GB. I'm happy with mine but I'm not a gamer or multimedia pro.
