Do you mean the Athlon II x2 and the Phenom II x2 I would go for the Athlon II x2 because it is cheaper and virtually the same CPU.

The athlon 64 x2 is older tech, while the Athlon II X2 is based off the newer phenom II tech, and therefore the better processor.

Well, it has 1MB of level 2 Cache, and 6mb of Level 3 cache.
The athlon II X2 has 2mb of level 2 Cache, but no level 3 cache.

Level 2 cache is much faster than level 3 cache, so difference is negligible, I wouldnt even consider the Phenom II X2 550, as you can get a triple core for only a few bucks more.
