What does the 'PSU fan' connector on the mb do?

I have an older mb, and i am replacing the power supply with a newer model, but the psu i taken out had a third (brown connector) connection to the mb titled 'power supply fan', as well as the usual 20+4 connectors. the new psu doesn't have this. is this needed for the mb/psu to work, or is it just a connection to control the psu?

I've never had one on any of my power supplies, so I would say its fine without! I'd guess that it's just if you want to be able to control the speen of the fan in it.

I've never had any experience with this, but it seems like the psu_fan was used to power the psu fan in your old computer. Most new psu fans are not adjustable, and they take their power directly from the socket in your wall. Do not worry about it.
