What dongle is best?

I am looking to find a dongle to use in America for 1 week next year. It needs to be reliable as the place I am staying in doesn't have wifi and I will be needing to use skype a lot. I will also be needing it to use for work emails and databases. If anyoe knows of a dongle that will be reliable enough and can be used in America I'd be really greatful for any replies.

Technically, the Jetpack isn't a dongle. It's a portable wifi hotspot. It might be the best for you but I can't say without knowing more about what you want. Do you need internet access for any other devices other than a laptop? The Jetpack will allow you to share it's internet connection with up to 10 wifi clients.

The problem I forsee is that you want the dongle or whatever for only 1 week. If you buy the Jetpack, for instance, with a 2-year contract/plan it's $19.99 plus the monthly subscription but buy it without the 2-year contract and it costs $250 plus the plan.

Before buying any device, I would check the carrier's coverage maps for the area you will be staying at to ensure that the carrier you select provides coverage in that area.

Thanks for the replies, they're very much appreciated. As you can probably tell I don't know much about computers let alone dongles!!

strollin I will only be needing it for one laptop so not sure if that makes a difference but I will deffinately check that out and check the coverage maps too . Thanks again!! :)

turbodiesel I think I mean the 3g router as I only need it for one week to use for work whilst on holiday. it needs to be one that will let me access the internet and my work emails and one that is pretty quick. I don't know if you have any other suggestions?

Where is the place that you will be staying?

If you give us a location we can look at certain providers and check their coverage in said location for you.

What you want is a 3G/Equivalent Mobile Broadband USB dongle :)

I have one here on T-Mobile, it's pay as you go and cost me £20, which included £10 of credit which can be used with any of their PAYG data plans

1 week of Mobile Broadband from them cost me £7 :cool:

EDIT: It seems that in the US 3G Routers are more common than dongles
