What exactly IS the response time?

Is it the time it takes to form all the data from the graphics card into a frame; or is the frame formed instantly, and the response time is the time between frames? Is 1000 divided by the response time the maximum fps that monitor can handle?

This is on a TFT monitor, btw.
 
It is how long it takes a pixel to go from Grey to Grey/black to white etc. Many diff. company's have different ways of measuring response time.

In Simple terms it is how long it takes the pixel to adjust to a change in the image to reflect was is now on screen.
 
Well, to me, it's either 8ms or 16ms. Does this time put a limit on the max fps, so for a large screen with a 16ms response, would its max fps be 1000/16 = 62?

I've never heard anything like that before, i wouldnt think thats true.
 
Don't worry about max FPS.... Worry about ghosting and Contrast. For gaming I'd get 8ms or faster. People think that the monitor can limit the FPS in a game and it's just not true. Hertz etc. have nothing to do with how many FPS (Frames Per Second) you can achieve.
 
yea basically the monitor will only limit your video card in resolution... never in fps. it might not display every single frame, but it will still play the game just as fast. basically the response time shouldnt matter much but its better to have that time as small as possible.
