Hello,

What file types do standard DVD players read? Also how do I know which resolution to make it so that it fits well on my TV screen, or does it do that automatically?

if you have burning software (preferably Nero) it converts .avi, .mpeg, what have you, to the .vob etc...

nero will convert most file types such as .avi or mpeg as mr. johanssen said to a .vob which will be readable on your dvd player, it should keep the original resolution of the file you are converting.
