Hey guys

a friend wants me to build him a PC.

Im basically gonna go i7 (im sure he will enjoy the HT) and about 6gigs or RAM (double the recommended)

Now im just stuck on GPU

Must i get him a nVidia Quadro, or a normal GeForce?

im not too clued up on the Quadros, so thats why im asking

he wont be gaming. Basic internet use, and the AutoDesk programs (Mainly Revit)

Im thinking the Quadro FX580 vs GTX 470 (i might even sell him my GTX295 and get something else for myself)

The Next Step Up is the Quadro FX1800, but thats double the price of the 580, and at that price, the card takes up 2/3 of his PC budget...

Now from what i have read, most people say ppl must stay away from the 580. Why is this the case?

thanks guys

I'd get a GTX 470 as you can still use rendering programs with ease and play games as well if you want to.

If it's purely a rendering workstation, grab the quadro card.

he wont play games, at all

But i have read alot of people online tell people to stay away from the Quadro FX580. problem is, the next Quadro FX1800 (next card on quadro list here in South Africa) costs more than a GTX580!!! The Quadro FX580 costs half of the GTX 580 (wow, the naming will be confusing to some)

and im sure a GTX580 will do better than the Quadro FX580 in both applications (rendering and software)

that site shows the GTX285 taking a few workstation carsd out, but on the new AutoCAD its starts losing out. Some it good, some its bad, so i really am confused as to what to get him
