what Graphics card to choose?

Hi all,
Basically i am getting a new computer for my 18th. i have seen a few good packages on websites such as MESH Computers. But the main differance between them are the CPU's and graphics cards. I know what CPU to choose but not too sure on what Graphics card to choose! The ones i have seen and interested in are the...

"256MB nVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT - Dual DVI,HDTV & TV-Out + DVI - PCI-Express"

or

"512MB DDR2 nVIDIA GeForce 7300GS - TV out- DVI - PCI X (256Mb SMA)"

i will mainly be using the computer for gaming and some uni work. So is there going to be a big differance between these? And will it really be noticable to me?

Any comments will be appriciated.

Thanks guys!

Matt :)

p.s. sorry for n00b Questions! :P

okay so the 7600GT is the better card. but just out of interest (as i want to save money :P) will there be a noticable differance between the 2 cards?

Is the 7600GT worth the extra money?

Thanks for all the help guys!

Deffinetly. The 7600GT should play the newst games on high-ish settings, whereas the 7300 may play them on low-ish settings.

I would pay the difference, its well worth it.

Why is it that they make low end cards with twice as much memory as better ones. Why dont they just keep the stuff on the 7600 that makes it better...and then give it the same amount of ram in the 7300? Whats the point of even giving the 7300 512 mb of ram?

Welcome to the technology world!
complicated.....some poeple want better quality, some cheaper prices, some tihs and that. Their is options, for everyone. That is why they got a low end card that is 512 Mb (sounds beter because the MB are bigger)

Chris

I think some video cards borrow memory from the system, eg: 256 mb onboard the card, but capable of borrowing another 256 from the system memory.

And to answer your question, the 7600 GT would wipe the 7300's bloody entrails on the floor. Then it would eat them.

Might I ask what you have configured for the rest of your system?

well basically i am going to buy a packaged computer from www.meshcomputers.com.

http://www.meshcomputers.com/Default.aspx?PAGE=PRODUCTVIEWPAGE&USG=PRODUCT&ENT=PRODUCT&KEY=88442

I am thinking of this one, but was just wondering if it was worth the extra money or go for the cheaper ones on the site.

But i just wanted information from you guys to compare the packages and see if it would actually make a obvious differance, as i have very little knowledge of computers and there components :P. and from what you guys have said it would make a differance. :D

So thanks for the advice and help guys

Matt :)
