What happened to 4GHz?

the inquirer. ahhh...
remember when they said Pentium V was soon to come and it would be clocked at 10ghz... hahaha...HAHAHA
You dont happen to have that article do you?

Plus, they can't call it the Pentium 5 anyways, since pentium means 5. Its like calling a product 5 5. Think of Pent in pentium. Pent meaning for pentagon, which has five sides, and I think its latin for 5, so thats pretty much my theory. :D

It seems like they have kind of regressed on the clock speeds because of the temperature problems.

The only real way to get to around 4GHz is overclocking with some powerful air or water cooling. I remember just reading this article the other day on toms hardware about overclocking a $130 p4 chip to 4.1GHz
http://www.tomshardware.com/2006/05/10/dual_41_ghz_cores/

yep its called dry ice man i watched a video where they used liquid nitrogen

You are referring to an article they had months ago where they used liquid nitrogen to overclock a pentium processor.

This article I am talking about overclocks a Pentium D 805 to 4.1GHz using water cooling. They got it up to like 3.8 on air cooling.

TOM'S hardware tests the Pentium D 805, finally and finds out that this 2.66GHz processor can overclock to 4.1GHz, which is quite a feat and allows the P D 805 to retake the crown of best overclocker around.

In terms of performance, it puts Intel and AMD's best to shame, especially when the FX60 and the PEE are not overclocked. The P D 805 is available for around £80 in the UK while a compatible mobo should not be more expensive than £50. In fact, you could easily build a whole overclocked computer for the price of one of those beauties. Wicked.

Hehe talk about value.

Those who first break this bit of news to their circles of friends can count on some surprised looks - in fact, they might even find their credibility getting questioned! But it is true: a cheap CPU that costs $130 outperforms the fastest processors from AMD (Athlon 64 FX-60) and Intel (Pentium Extreme Edition 965), each of which costs over $1,000.

Thats just.. faul. I want to buy one. :)

The thing about that THG test is that its not that amazing... people pushing P Ds to over 4 Ghz isnt anything new, even if it is a low end model; actualy, it could be easier, because you dont have to raise the FSB as high.

The most amazing part is the price of $130.

Whats better? An overclocked 3.8GHz P4 to 4.0GHz or a 2.0GHz Pentium D.
They dont have 2Ghz Pentium D's only 2.8.

But if you downclocked one to 2Ghz, i'd say the P4 would be better.

So the multiple core thing is BS?
No, dual-cores are very good. But if your comparing a 2Ghz Pentium D to a 4Ghz P4, it wouldnt be as good.

You dont multiple the dual-core speed, so a 2Ghz PD isnt the same as a 4Ghz P4.
