What happened to the remaining 35GB?!!

Hello guys,

Any info anybody could give on this issue would be great! I just bought a Seagate Baraccuda 500GB SATA HDD. But after I hooked it up, my OS says it has only 465GB. What about the rest? I mean when you think about it, 35GB is quite a lot of space!

Any explanations? Thanks in advance ...

Same thing with all my drives...my 320 only shows 298.

It is the companies advertise and this creates confusion they advertise 1 gigabyte as 1,000,000,000 bytes OS usually calculate a gigabyte by dividing the bytes by 1,073,741,824.

Thus it shows less. So your drive is fine...its a let down to be sure though

I thought that the drive was physically 500gb, but formatting took the space?
