Just wondering what would happen if a comp. was run with everything except the CPU? Is it bad for the computer?

Thanks,
D

this is the most absurd thread i have seen in all the forums ive been, the pc will turn on but you will just see a blank screen. i dont think it will damage your system but in the end it will just get fed up and will beat you up for doing such a stupid thing

hey, I never said I was going to do it. I had read somewhere that it would hurt the computer, and I was just wondering what you guys thought. Thanks for the reply's.

Sorry, i realize this should be in General computer chat, oops. Sorry 'bout that.

actually, you could cause many western russian nuclear reactor sites to overheat and cause a massive meltdown, forcing thousands to relocate. its highly recommended you do NOTHING OF THE SORT.

actual;ly on some motherbopards if you have no cpu can't ou at least flash the bios? is it called Q-flash, other than that not a lot will happen withoput a cpu

This might be stupid but maybe he was talking about the HSF??? you would have to be really stupid if you thought the computer would run without a processor. Besides, he was saying that he read it somewhere, to me that sounds like the HSF. maybe he just had the terminology wrong or something. Thats just my 2 cents though.

It's possible. If you try to run the PC without the HSF it will reach thermal shutdown very quickly (if you're lucky). If you're not, you can burn out the CPU.
