What hardware do I need for a Home Network LAN

I'm going to be ordering some parts from Newegg or picking up local pretty soon here. I'd like to get all my parts in one order and not quiet sure what all hardware I'll need for my setup.

My objective = Add a File Server or NAS server ( I'll be teaching myself Linux O/S as part of this project ) to my current PC setup without disrupting my current internet connection.

My Storage Server will be an old Dell 4500 with an aftermarket Ethernet Card. It will have 2x160 GB hard drives ( will do RAID 1 eventually - but I want to get up and running first and foremost - so I can do that off the bat - or wait a little while and add RAID later. )

My Client / PC - end user will be my Core i7 and possibly another PC at later date to add to the network.

My Core i7 is currently hooked up to a Home Network Internet Router - via Ethernet - and another PC is hooked up to the home network wirelessly. am already using my ethernet connection which is attached to my UD4P Motherboard. Not sure logistically how I should go about getting a LAN added onto my current setup

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1) Logistically / schematically - how should I go about setting up my home LAN to keep things working and add a storage server?

2) Can I leave the internet connection as it is - and add the LAN network storage server via an ethernet card?

3) Will adding an ethernet card disrupt my MOBO ethernet card?

4) What other hardware will I need to add to either my old Dell 4500 - OR - m i7 920 PC - if any that I haven't thought of in order to get my LAN set up.

All you need is a basic home router for can pick up at yoru local big box store for under $40. This will allow you to share your internet connection, network the PCs together and attach any NAS or network printers.

Would that router be different than my current router ( ATT Broadbrand - Wireless internet Router )- that I'm using for the internet?

If so, can you give a link to a router that's the type I should be looking for?

Thanks

Nope you got everything you need. I have the ATT 2Wire DSL modem/router myself and it works great.

Cool,

I'm going to pick up a book or 2 at the local library on Ubuntu and start the learning process to get the network up and running. Kindof excited about learning some new stuff re: Networking.
