okay, I am building a computer for my small business which does video editing and commercial marketing. Not a lot of hd stuff, but want the ability. Had a few people suggest the hd x2600 xt or the hd x2900 xt and last the quadro 3400 fx. The price difference between these three is considerable and to be honest I don't want all the TV tuning crap. Basically what I produce -- or will be producing -- is 1:30 min to 2 min commercials. I do no video taping or recording. All the video is brought to me and I edit it together to create a promotion. Like I said. No HD stuff lined up yet, but I want the best quality I can get. Whats your thoughts?

Below is the computer as it stands now on paper. I just want to know if the graphics card is over kill?

You don't need the Quadro graphics card unless your a 3D animator and are using 3D aps like maya, XSI , Max and so on. The Creative sound card is def needed it has the audio chip for editing audio in realtime.

All the video editing will be done by the CPU and Ram you only need graphics card abilities to run video the CPU performance is most important. For running HD Disks you will need a directX 10 card they have the hardware for running HD but to use that feature you will need a BluRay read/write drive.

At the mo I'm running video DVD Auditing and sound editing perfectly so anything as good as or better than mine will do perfectly till your start HD production then you need to get that Direct 10 card and the BluRay. Rather than buy the most expensive I would save some cash for better software. Check that your current software works with Windows Vista.

My Workstation Spec for 3D animation, rendering, video & sound editing and DVD production:-

CPUs - 2X Opteron Processors 2GHZ
Ram - 2x 1GB DDR 3200
GPU - Nvidia 6800GT 435Mhz
Sound - Creative Audigy 2 ZS
Motherboard - Tyan 2x CPU sockets
DVD Drive - supports all DVD formats.

CPU coolers - 2x Zaleman Aeroflower
GPU cooler - Zaleman Resorator

The water cooler was added to the CPU and GPU on the old gaming comp. The old gaming comp broke so added the 6800 card to the dual processor workstation which already has massive quiet fan coolers.
