What is a motherboard?

What is a motherboard? I feel really stupid asking this... this has probably already been answered but I can't find where! And also, in which forum would I post questions asking what the heck are RAMs and gigs, and abytes and stuff like that?

a motherboard is what controls your whole computer and it controls wat u r goin to b able to upgrade, make sure u get one with enough pci slots for watever u want to do with your computer. and pci express is the best lol in my opinion
