what is Antialiasing?

i don't even know what it does. i used it at 4x in COD4 and then turned it off and got higher frame rates but didn't notice much of a difference...
 
well from what i know
i believe it is used to smooth all the edges and generally unless your rig and absolutly anialiate (spelling) the game in performance it shouldnt be used, because like you saw it kills your fps

correct me if im wrong
 
I can turn it u 2 16x in TF2 An yes it smooths all the edges.n Nothing looks rought. It all got sandpaperd :P. NEED GOOD GPU FOR IT!
 
In some games the cost of turning on AA is nominal. Don't write it off immediately, because it does make the jaggies much less noticeable, everything is sharper.. 4x is usually enough many times, the higher levels lower performance incrementally to a smaller image quality boost.
 
well i have it max in tf2 and that runs fine. in cod4 it seems to be laggier with the aa on, probably because it's a more graphic intense game.
