What is arguably the "best" non OC Intel CPU for gaming?

So I am planning on buying a new machine for gaming. I am not really wanting to OC. Just use what the stock speeds / settings are based at. I went browsing around and I decided on the I7 3770. Is there one that will preform better at stock speeds that not say over 400$?

Here is the build I decided on buying, also want to make sure that it is all compatible? First time building and I want to get a machine that is more than upgradable, and will last for a few good years.

GPU ASUS HD7850-DC2-2GD5-V2 Radeon HD 7850
DvD ASUS 24X DVD Burner
CPU Intel Core i7-3770
Ram G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB 1600
Mobo ASRock Z77 Extreme4
PSU CORSAIR Enthusiast Series TX650
Case Haf 912

Did not chose storage / OS as for I am using what I got already in my current machine

Thanks

May as well get a non-K i5 for gaming. Barely any difference between the i5 and i7 for gaming and you can save money of course and spend more on your graphics card which is what really matters for gaming.

This! But if you arent overclocking you might as well go for a 4000 series as they are slightly better at the same speeds, not much though, like 3%, but still? And you'll need a z87 lga1150 motherboard! And put the savings into a gtx760
