What is considered slow?

I do allot of graphics and when i launch Photoshop i want it not to LAG when I'm dragging windows or images, when i launch Adobe Flash i want the interaction to be fast...FAST AS IN REAL TIME..
I bought a net book and said OK ill try to install Adobe products and see what happens ( did not buy the Net book for Adobe originally ) so i tried it and the loading was slow...and then when i tried to load images and edit them it was slow ....NOT REAL TIME
So to me a fast computer is real time...now type of mentality.

For newer systems (2GHz or faster processor, 1GB RAM or more) I expect to be able to go from off to up w/ desktop fully loaded/functional in less than a minute. But that's not always possible - especially if extra hardware is present (eg USB devices) or the customer insists on having certain programs run on Startup. I wouldn't tolerate more than 1min 30secs.
I expect Firefox to load in 5 secs or less. Games and other graphic intensive programs will vary - I'm very impatient, so if something takes longer than 30 secs to load, then I would start looking for a way to make it load faster...
That's kind of a vague question - I run a 700MHz machine w/ 384MB RAM and I just clocked it with a stop-watch. 1 min 16 secs from off to up and fully functional. 14 secs for Firefox to load up.
But then, I have a theme installed, bookmarks toolbar and plus it has to load the homepage...

Next, run Malwarebyte's Antimalware in Safe Mode with Networking and remove anything it finds.

Next, download and run the executable for TrendMicro HijackThis!.
Press the button labeled "Open the Misc Tools Section". Then check both the check boxes next to the "Generate StartupList Log" button and click the button. Click the button to generate the list, save it and upload it as an attachment to your next post, and I or some other forum member will advise you on what else to disable, if anything.
Then run HijackThis! in normal mode and post your scan log here and we'll see if there's anything else that needs to be looked at.
Finally, you can install a free anti-virus to help keep you protected (these aren't nearly as taxing on your memory as Norton). I prefer AVG Free Edition, but I've heard good things about Microsoft Security Essentials as well. Avira AntiVir and Avast! are two more options. Please install one of these programs to help keep you virus free.
After you've done all of these things, please wait until the computer is idle (no programs loading/scanning/etc), and hit ctrl+alt+delete and make note of your CPU usage at the bottom of the popup window.
On your next post, please include both the HijackThis! Logs I've requested, your idle CPU usage, any steps you left out, the make/model of your computer, and let us know how your it is running now.

it takes google chrome about 4 seconds to open and load four tabs. itunes takes around 45 seconds. startup takes a minute 30 seconds
I just noticed it took inkscape 6-7 seconds to start, i'm not sure about the boot, but it should be around the 30 second mark, i read somehwere windows 7 could boot in 10 seconds 
that slow computer rant seem cool, when i get my warranty hdd for my laptop, i'll give that a go, that computer is super slow!

A computer is slow if it is no longer giving the performance needed for what the user needs.
If a computer is not fast enough for intesive gaming, but it can handle the internet and word processors fine, and that is all the user needs it for, then it is not an issue that it isn't the quickest system, because it does what is required of it
