What is Intel Rapid Store Technology?

Ever since I had my PC custom built for me, since 3 years ago, I noticed my computer always had this program called Intel Rapid Store technology.

I recently installed a new SSD into my PC and removed my HDD, I no longer have this, "Rapid Store Technology".

Do I need it? What even is it?

It was originally deployed for setting up multiple hard drive (RAID) configurations in a more user-friendly way, but now it has a slew of other benefits that have minimal to significant effect on hard drive performance without using a significant amount of system resources.

Intel boasts it reduces power consumption, quickens access to applications and files, and provides a recovery point in the event of a drive failure here: http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/architecture-and-technology/rapid-storage-technology.html

A little more Googling and you can see users give their opinions on the program. Some notice a great benefit, some not much at all, but rarely do you see anyone mention having negative issues with it.

It's usually installed with other device drivers... I installed it while installing motherboard drivers because I was cruising on autopilot setting up my computer for the first time.

Do you need it? No, but it's worth having around if you don't mind another icon in the taskbar tray.
