What is MP4 video? same as MPEG4?

i was on a website, and they had a list of difforent file formats you could download video in, one was MPEG2, MPEG4, MP4. Is MP4 same thing as MPEG4?

MP4 is essentially the same, referring to doom9.org i noticed a section on it, which suggests it sorta is the same as MPEG-4
