What is taking up all my memory?

I have a hd with 530 gb. My plan is to move all my system and program files to an ssd, and keep my hd for files and other functions. I did a disk cleaning, and calculated how much i will have on the drive when i subtract my files, and it's like 300+!

The weird part is that the drive says it has 580 gb on it, but when i select all the files and folders in the c drive, its only 340 gb. Where is this extra 220 gb coming from?

What's the max amount of memory available on your hard? . It's hard for me to imagine such miss-report. Can you post a screenshot?
 
Moving windows and programs to an SSD? Not a good idea, you should do a fresh install to get the best performance.

The reason why the amount is off is because of hidden files and folders, system restore, and other things.
 
I'm sorry, I'm an idiot. I was reading the description wrong. It's 560 gb "free" space, not used. You'd think after 10 years of looking at that screen I'd be able to read it properly, but I guess not.

In order to salvage this thread a little. Is there a thread or does anyone have any pointers on setting up a dual SSD/HD system, in which the HD handles all the files, and the SSD handles all the OS and installed program files? I've read some things about disabling Windows programs that save backup restore points, etc. to the drive. Is this defined in better detail anywhere?

Yes there is and I do. But, do you have Windows that you can fresh install to the SSD?
