Simple text watermark is enough for me as a start.

What is the best way to do so? Any recommended freeware?

You can even do text watermarks with movie maker. After you pick titles & credits, put what ever text you want. Then pick change the title animation and pick subtitle. Then pick what ever size you want and where to put it.

Can most easily be done in Windows Movie Maker though, imo. Try YouTube for more in-depth and visual instructions, I'm sure there's something there.

Yes, we movie maker, simple, easy for our videos, tried other freeware out there, but seems movie maker is easier.
