Iv been looking at the AMD Phenom X4 9950 Quad Core Processor HD995ZXAGHBOX but is a Quad core really needed? I mean really all im going to be doing is playn WoW mayb some net surfn but really just WoW...

Iv seen it around $190ish and willing to spend more( scared to look at the intel prices) w/ a budget of 1k...ish

If your just playing WoW all you need is a basic dual core 1.8. Not even that really, but that's plenty.

Actually a dual-core will be just fine. Even though WoW says Dual-Core ready it really doesn't use one all that well.

It uses maybe 50% of 2 cores on my quad....and only uses about 50% of my GPU power so its not a very strict game.

So a dual-core like this will last you a few expansions

Then buy a CPU cooler like this A64 Pro

If you don't plan to overclock and have good air flow in your case then you could buy this.

Same processor but comes with a heatsink and fan for 3 bucks more.

ya, a 5400+ would be good, i have a 5200+ and at stock speeds it does good on wow,and with a little oc, it does even better :)
So like it is said before, you dont need a huge cpu with all that power if you not even going to be using it all.I would go with what twist86 recommended.

Oh well if you already have the AM2 board, than you're stuck with AMD.

And I wouldn't really call an E8400 MAJOR overkill for WoW.

Are you just upgrading the CPU, or are you doing a whole new build?
