What is the biggest factor for PC gaming?

I have an athlon 64 3500+ 2.2 ghz processor and an Nvidia geforce 7300 le. I'd like to upgrade to an ATI X1650 pro graphics card. Will I see a significant performance boost? I'm not sure with my processor.

Don't even touch the X16xx series cards, they are horrible, performance is dismal. If you are going to get the X16xx, get the 7600GT instead, much better, and it uses less power, most of the X16xx cards that I have tested needed external power.

Almost every review that I have read have been positive.

get an AMD athlon 3800+ X2 http://www.canadacomputers.com/index.php?do=ShowProduct&cmd=pd&pid=011232&cid=CPU.907 and a 8500GT the Proccessor is only like 90 bucks canadian at canada computers and i think like http://www.canadacomputers.com/index.php?do=ShowProduct&cmd=pd&pid=013515&cid=999.243.390
$105 bucks witch is better then the 7600GT

That graphics card is barely more than what I have now. I doubt my motherboard could support a dual core processor, but I will check on that. Thanks anyway.

I don't know what reviews you are looking at, but I have benchmarked the cards myself and the X16xx series is definitely a no-go. Its very power hungry and the 7600GT rips it.

Okay, then I will take your word for it. Is there a particular one that you recommned? (I've seen some with different amounts of ram and/or clock speeds)
