What is the difference

When I make backups for my dvd's it takes me a long time and my friends is alot faster. We have the same burner but he has a much nicer computer. What I want to know is what part of a computer system is it that I would need to upgrade to be able to make backups faster when the actual burner is not a factor.
 
first of all, are u using the same burning software? and also, it ur burn speed set correctly....meaning at the highest burning speed possible?
 
Yes we use the same software. He has alot faster cpu and alot more RAM I just didn't know if I needed one or the other or both to make up for the time difference
 
Hard drive seek speed, hard drive cache, CPU 'speed', ram size, ram 'speed', burn program utilized, other programs utilized at the time of burning, may be a bit different for 'on the fly' burning.
