What is the Fastest AMD 939 processor out.

Ok, I need to upgrade a system that is still running the old AMD 939 socket, not the AM2 version. What is the fastest upgrade for it.

Is it the

And what is the difference in performance. Since the 4200+ is only $69 and the Opteron is $235. This is just to make a system last for another year or so.

The opteron 185 would be the fastest i think (or one of the FX line)

Has more cache, high clock and they over clock A LOT, i jut bought me an opteron 165 to see how far i can get it

The Opteron 185 is the fastest Opteron on the 939 platform, and is a stress-tested (Because of their server intendence) Toledo chip. They make for very good overclockers, being hand-picked for their stability, but buying a 185 when intending to overclock is a bit redundant, as you could buy the 165 or 170 for less and OC by the same amount.

The 185 is a good choice if not overclocking, and is one of the fastest 939 dual-core processors. The difference between the two is purely clock speed, and the price difference is not worth the extra .4ghz.

I think I will go with the 170, it's half the price of the 185 for a huge jump in speed from his old 64 x2 3800.

if your going to go for a 170 you should look at the 165 as they are even cheaper and overclock the same if not furthee in some cases

I upgraded my moms computer from the 3700+ to the x2 4200 and it was a MAJOR improvement. But the operton might be worth the price, but i don't know.

The person I am upgrading this for is not interested in Over clocking. He justs wants the most he can get for the smallest price. So the 170 seems to be the best choice.

The most you can get for the smallest price and not going to overclock then the X2 4200 would be the best deal, half of the L2 but 200mhz more but just 69 bucks

Yeh dont go for an opteron if your not going to overclock, a 3800 x2 is cheap and will do fine
