After having an experience of the sudden death of my 3-year-old precious internal hard disk, I am now extremely aware of the ways to handle harddisk. I have an 1TB/500GB (I forget) WD external hard drive, 3.5" inch, using independent power supply but not just from USB. It's still working fine now because it's just 1 year old.
I am here to ask for the proper habit of handling external harddisk. Do I need to choose "eject" or "safely remove" like USB Flash drive when unplugging the USB of external hard drive out of the main computer? Will the life-span of the harddisk be reduced if I always connect it to my 24-hour powered on computer? Do I need to do any scanning or any harddisk defragment on the external harddrive?
please tell me anything you can think of, i hope my harddrive would last longer, or at least does not die out before the life it should have.
Thanks all!!
