OK, just out of curiosity, what is the worlds most powerful GPU? The question is pretty flat out. Any ideas?

X1900 XTX 512mb is more powerful than the 7900 GTX 512mb. More pixel processors. higher clock speed. The gtx in sli still only gets about 20 fps more than one XTX and the xtx still gets about 80 fps. (on BF2) but your eye cant really tell the difference above 80 fps so it doesnt matter.

It's only more powerful in certain games. In games designed for nVidia, the 7900GTX wins some games by a long shot. They both have their pros and cons.

But the 7950GX2 outperforms the x1900XT/X in almost every benchmark as well, so I would consider that the best desktop gaming card.

The x1900XTX is not as good as the 7950GX2 as a whole. If you have both in identical systems, run benchmarks and games, the 7950GX2 is going to be the winner in almost all the tests/games.

but dx 10 cards will make it obsolete. also, cant run AA and HDR lighting at the same time. so by taking AA off, it might have better fps than the 1900 which has both aa and hdr on.

Any half way reliable benchmark comparisons are done on the same hardware and settings. If An X1900XTX is compared to a 7950GX2 both cards will be tested with HDR turned off, for example, to make for a fair comparison. The 7950GX2 is faster, but significantly more expensive. Of course, we are now comparing cards, and not GPUs.

I dont think we ever compared GPU's here, lol.

But if we must, I think the R580 (x1900XTX) is the best GPU out.
