What is this accessory?!!!!

Does anyone know what this led light accessory is? it lights up only when i plug it into my mic output then turns off after 5 seconds. Ive searched all over and cant find nothing. Help me to decide if im gonna throw it out or keep it for something.

It looks like a Wherever Light - red so it can be used in the dark and not ruin night vision. Does it come with a USB adapter? Some sort of infra-red port?

What laptop is it for?

No it doesn't come with a USB adapter. I actually came with an old desk top hp media center I bought in 2005 and it's been tucked in the back of the drawer in the computer desk. It's plugged into a pavilion dv7 4054ca in this pic.
 
Given the original HP setup, my guess is that it's the infrared extender that attaches to the IR receiver of the HP Media Center. Not intended for the microphone socket of a laptop!
 
Has it got a little sticker underneath the red thing with any serial numbers on?,But i should say Nanobyte has the best guess,some sort of infrared device.
 
thanks for the info Nanobyte. I looked on the back of the IR receiver and found that it does plug in there so I searched for the IR receiver online.

Its called and IR blaster used to control the cable box or other devises with infrared in the room. Now just to figure out the best way to use it.
