What is TPM? Do I need it with a desktop?

I bought a brand new 1 TG Western Digital HD and put new install of Win 7. Have trouble getting all the updates loaded, when I closed down for the night, it would say "Do not turn off your machine, Updates are loading 1 of 155". I thought, Come on, gimme a break. But I let it run and when it got to 17 it froze up. Powered it off and the next day, It says "DNTOYM" again Installing updates. I could do other things like put my Word program back on etc. Next night: "DNTOYM", installing updates 1 of 25. I let it run all night. But couldn't power it back on the next day.
Finally got it where it will power on and it said there is an update that is affecting my power management system. Download this Toshiba Infineon TPM update and install. Did that and it's there but when you check the status of the computer it shows: Chip state: disabled, Owner state: not initialized, User state: not initialized. This is in the location where the TPM is but none of the buttons can be changed, they are all greyed out. I have a feeling this Toshiba TPM thing is for a laptop. Mine is a older MPC desktop running Win 7.

I installed Avast and Tdsskiller and they don't come up with anything. But something is causing the computer is to either go to sleep (even though I have it set as "never"). It freezes up in the middle of running a program, at the very top of the screen is some ...---... , sometimes the whole screen has these morse code symbols all over the screen & when it does that I lose my mouse. I have to manually power it off and then I get the safe mode screen.

Tried using safe mode to find out what the problem is but can't locate it.
Anybody got any ideas, I only have re-installed 6 or 8 of my regular programs like Photoshop, Word, MSmoney, Avast, Incredimail (my email program).
I think I finally got the huge number of updates installed when I went to Microsoft and installed SP3. The only problem listed now is the TPM enigma.

I'll try to attach that TPM download. No, it won't let me attach the file.

Its fine it did not attach the file cause no one would have looked at it without knowing if it is Malicious or not. If you install your OS and all your drivers I don't see how the machine is prompting to receive additional updates from the OEM, but I could not tell you since I run windows in a VM and with Linux updates take ten minutes and all driver are included.

I would try and do a scan from Malwarebytes and post the log fro it, it sounds Malicious but that is just my thoughts. If you do a scan with Malwarebytes this will help if you post the log.

Malwarebytes won't let you use the program more than 30 days and then you're blocked off unless you buy the program. I did, however, run the Avast scan, and the TDSSKiller, both of them came back clean. I didn't expect it to be malware since it is a brand new HD, brand new install, it just seems like it is something else. I noticed also that Internet Explorer will abruptly pop up and say it is malfunctioning and will have to close. A couple of flicks of the screen and then the website I was in comes back operational, for a time(maybe 5 min).......then that ....---.... SOS stuff fills the screen, freezes my mouse and I have to power it down manually. So I wonder if it could be something in Internet Explorer that is messing things up. Just for kicks, I think I will delete that TPM power management file and see what happens. My logical thinking: If it is a power management driver that Microsoft needs, why do I have to go to Toshiba to get it?
Will post what happens after my TPM removal.

If you look there is a free version that is not a 30 day free trail.

Avast is great but it does not catch a huge chunk of Malware, I am only assuming Malware because I sure you backed your stuff up and restored so it is possible for infection to cross over.

My question to you is this a Toshiba computer? The thing that makes me worried is the "DNTOYM" installing updates, I just did a web search and there is nothing on that. Could you post screen shots please of everything popping up that you are talking about?
