i saw an ad on my local CL for a laptop with vista 'gold'.
is this some kind of pirate OS, or a codename for sp1, or what?
never heard of it, and can't find much on google.

thnx

Vista "gold"? There is no gold version of Vista; Home, Home Premium, Business, or Ultimate are the only versions you may find on a laptop in retail.

Its probably a lite version of Vista or something. Or just a pirated release of Vista. I'd still buy it. Would reformat though and install my own copy of Vista.

The only thing i can think of is OCZ RAM, they do a vista gold series, but as far as i know they only do desktop RAM in it, not notebook, so that idea sort of fails. I haven't heard of anything else apart from that so probably a pirated thing or illegal thing

think it was beta.

yeah, somebody else mentioned that (elsewhere), maybe when it was beta, it was 'gold'.
anyways, it'll probably be defunct now, so it's not really a selling point for it, is it?

i would probably put some linux on it, but wasn't sure what that 'gold' thing was.

Vista Gold edition is a Pirated version of Vista,Same as there was Windows Xp Blue moon edition and Xp Ultimate edition which were all Pirated editions of windows with added software such as Nero which are also pirated lol.

I would not be buying anything from who you seen selling those laptops with pirated windows.

They shouldnt be selling them in the first place.

Im pretty sure you can report this kind of stuff to microsoft, especialy if they are found out to be selling Counterfeit Software.

Yeah, it could be Ultimate. Though I'm betting Nevakonaza is right. In that case, I wouldn't buy from this store at all. If you can verify the legitimacy of the OS in person first, then purchase. If not, and you still want to buy this laptop, make sure they give you at least $100 off the price. ;)

Apparently it was build 6000m Microsofts final code before signing it off

The Vista gold code (christened with the build number 6000) will be available for download to members of the MSDN network within the next seven days, along with Office 2007, so next week should be a big one for downloading.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking earlier, a pre-launch or the "Gold Master" version of Vista. Odd that any store would offer/advertise that way...still seems fishy.

PC World magazine mentions beta.
Though there could be more than one. (pirate ver).

depends on where ya look

sorry, it is not a store selling it, it's in Craig'sList, here's what it says:

I am selling my Toshiba Laptop for 400 obo it is about 9 months old it has been completely rebooted and has Windows Vista Gold it has no viruses what so ever got a new laptop and dont need this one works completely has wireless internet and everything charger included... if any questions please contact me at ***-**-***

if this was beta, it is pretty much useless, right?
i would ask to put the original os back on there if it's '9 months old'.
thnx.

Yeah, ask for the original OS to be restored. But, in any case, buyer beware. You should inspect the unit before paying.
