What kind of motherboard will I need?

I am looking to get a cheap motherboard where I can add more ram to my computer (it only has 2 banks and they are full). I have a Dimension 3000 with a 3ghz Pentium 4 processor and I know that I will be needing pci slots and crap for my video card and sound card. But what I need to know is what socket type motherboard I will be needing. ex: socket 478, 479, 370, or T. Thanks in advance.

We need to know your socket type first, if you plan on keeing your CPU, because Intel makes a few types of 3GHz p4s. It will be either 478 or lga775 (or just 775).

how would I go about doing that? Would it say on the actual processor?

Down load a copy of CPU-Z and it will give you that info.
