What Laptop

Hi All,

I am looking for a new laptop!! Its gotta be pretty beefy, I use alot of 3d and editing software.

I thought I'd ask pro's like you for advice. My budget is only around £1100 though (Maybe abit more if it was really good).

I have spotted this and was wondering what you all thought of it or do you know of any better laptops for around that price. http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/-/3227/2494/-/15639342/Sony-VAIO-F12-Z1E-BI-Intel-Core-i7-740QM-2-93GHz-8GB-500GB-Blu-ray-16-4-inch-Windows-7-Home-Premium-Laptop-Notebook-Black/Product.html

Also speed and power wise is a mac much faster than a pc, if so what would the equivalent mac be?

Thanks in advance,
John

Macs are just as fast as PC in most cases. The difference being in the OS and build quality department. Mac has a good build quality, but so too does the PC's in that price range. Really, you would do just as good buying a PC for that price. Maybe a Lenovo Thinkpad or Asus G53 or G73. I have no clue what these run over in europe though.

Thanks Wolfeking,

What do you think of the Sony on the link? Seems like a good system.

Asus G73 are too expensive over here!!

the link just leads me to the play.com homepage.
Personally I do not like Sonys as the build quality does not keep up with the price. They seem to be rather flimsy, and underpowered.

I would not suggest the Sony. There are better equipped models for less. (just a note, the play.com link does not take me to product still, but the sony.co.uk does.)

Play.com has a good Toshiba (better build quality than the average sony, and cheaper.) It also has a newer dedicated GPU in it, the NVIDIA GeForce Optimus 540M at 1GB.

Id buy that one, and get a dual channel DDR3 kit from your local electronics supply site. Newegg carries them for around $200 US.
