what OS do I need?

I tried to be patient and put time into this laptop but it seems to be getting worse no matter what I do. I think it has something to do with the windows 8.1, everything from the task bar randomly sliding in from the right (I've mentioned this in a earlier post in a different category) and my cursor jumping to it as I'm trying to click on something else and clicking on the task bar while i'm trying to bring the cursor back to where I need it.

The cursor and page will stick randomly as I'm scrolling and will stay stuck any where from a few seconds to a couple minutes, the cursor will even disappear. Also the start menu page will just pop up randomly as I'm scrolling...typing...clicking on something etc etc. Now a "page cannot be displayed" takes over from time to time as well. The little menu box pops up randomly as if I had clicked on the right mouse pad button...but at the time I'm not clicking on the right mouse pad button

I think I just need to ditch this OS. I've been given tools and advice to help and still its just snow balling it seems.

What other OS could I swap out to? I'm not to techy and need something that's easier to work with and free if possible. I surf the web, chat and occasional youtube videos.

2.16ghz processor, 4gb ram

I would try doing a system recovery first to get all the bugs out of it. When did you buy this laptop?

I bought it almost a month ago. The restore points are only on the 20th and 24th of this month, it was acting up before then. I just thought in the start that it may have needed updates or something that could easily be fixed but it didn't even seem to be updating, lastnight I ran avast and found 4 corrupt files and with further research found that there was 50+ updates that wasn't even acknowledged by anything else. I've used windows 7, I didn't have any problems with that OS.

I don't mean a system restore, I mean a system recovery where it will take it back to the way it was when you first bought it. So you start new. If you do that and it still acts weird then take it back.

I thought I posted this yesterday but evidently not.

Most everything is ok for now except that taskbar sliding in from the right and the large time rectangle thingy coming up from the bottom as well as a few other little things that aren't as bad as they were if they are there at all. What do I have to do to make the sliding taskbar and sliding time go away? should I reinstall Avast? what can I get rid of that I don't need?

Install ClassicShell and in the settings select to disable the charms bar.

Open the ClassicShell settings and tick the box at the top for Show All Settings. Then go to the Windows 8.1 Settings tab, and choose All under Disable Active Corners.

For some odd reason it seemed to have stopped but it just started popping back up. Seriously, I cant seem to do anything right on this laptop. what's next?
