what OS to use

hey i just upgraded my rig and im looking for the best 64 bit OS for gaming. would you guys recommend windows 7 or 8 or something different? i have 16gigs of ram i want to be able to use all of it thats why i need to go to 64 bit. im just wondering if 7 or 8 is better for gaming.

also where can i get the OS cheapest / free safely?
 
I would recommend going with Windows 7 Proffessional 64 bit as your operating system.
As for finding the best deal, you can get discounts for OS's if you are a student to most schools.
If not then Google is your friend :)
 
If you want the cheapest, get OEM, The downfall to OEM, it is mated to the motherboard. If you want to transfer to another computer in the future, get Retail instead. That will cost a bit more. Get Professional version.
 
I am pretty sure installing retail windows on more then 1 pc is illegal unless you buy a 3 copy still or something. I would go windows 8 for the price.

You are right, You can not have more than one copy of the same license on another computer. You have to take it out of the computer you are replacing first. But with OEM it is usually mated to the motherboard. But I run Windows 8 Pro.
 
It all depends on what you want to do with your computer? Games? Programming?
