Well I am in the process of building my first PC and I am trying to decide what type of Memory to get with my system. So far I have a 7800 gtx with a AMD 4000 San Diego Processor on a DFI Lanparty 939 socket nForce4 Motherboard and I have no idea what type of ram to get. Price isnt a factor. I want FAST =D. THanks for help in advance.

Hey

I have to agree with mgoldb2. That RAM is very very good and given that you seem to want to go for the best, that would be a great choice. One more thing. If price is not the issue, why not get a better processor? In particular I have the FX55 or FX57 on my mind. You may also want to get the X2 series of processors (Perhaps the X2 4800+) for top performance!

Well I thought long and hard about the processor I am getting and its not worth the extra 330 dollars for 200 mhz, especially when they overclock to about the same speed. All of the benchmarks I have read show very small differences in frames per second on the same system, about one or two. BTW This computer is for gaming, and the X2 Series is a multitasking CPU, which, although it is extremely fast, wont give you the most out of your games (from what I have heard). But I was planning on getting the fx-55, but as I explained, I dont feel its worth the upgrade for the small frames difference.

True

Actually when I think back on what I said, you are entirely right. The 4000+ is a wise choice. I am sure you can get it to 2.8Ghz (FX57 level) without any great difficulty. I have overclocked mine to 2.6Ghz....so you will definitely get that higher. The FX55 is at 2.6Ghz and the new FX57 at 2.8Ghz. Good luck and sorry about my previous comment. One thing I could mention....the 3800+ is a better deal you know ;).

JAN :D

what ever you get you should get kingston pro, they cut down on heat and perform quite well
except heat isnt much of an issue for ram until you get post 3v Vdimm (but by then u already know what yer doing)

RAM 101.

Well i think the 1 MB Cache on the 4000+ is worth the extra 100 dollars you pay. It overclocks a lot smoother from the benchmarks (which is something I want to do as little of as possible) and performs well under extreme conditions, even faster than the FX-53.

All that has very little to do with the extra 512K on the L2 as AMD processors have never really been bound by their L2 cache
