what settings should i use for catalyst gaming?

ok i have a radeon 6870, i get lag, but not constant lag, just lag spikes. what settings should i use? in at catalys? here are the options:

anti-aliasing
2X, 4X, 8X

anisotropic filtering
2X, 4X, 8X, 16X

tessellation
2X,4X, 6X, 8X, 16X 32X, 64X

catalyst A.I.
performance, quality, high quality

Wait for vertical refresh
always off, off unless application spesifies, on unless application spesifies, always on

anti-aliasing mode
multi-sample AA, adaptive multi-sample AA, super-sample AA

openGL settings
triple buffering tick/ untick
 
Usually for the best results, its much better to use in game (application) settings.

Set them to default and do all this in game.

Try lowering resolution and settings.

WHat games are you having issues with and what resolution do you play?

I am maxing out bf3 on "high" not ultra but lag on friken GTA IV?
 
try setting custom settings through the game itself?
most games have an autodetect feature that will look at what your specs are and go to the best possible settings from there

Yeah I did that with GTA IV and it has big lag spikes every 5 seconds or so :( but I can max out BF3 with 30fps and high with 60fps? Will updating it help? GTA?
 
Gta iv is poorly coded, its a good game but a bad port.

I wouldnt worry about it too much, did you manage to patch it to 1.0.7? I think thats the latest patch and does sort some issues out.

With gta yhou need a beasty cpu for the best out of it, is yours overclocked? as you do need a pretty hefty OC to see the most fps.

Saw that you have a i7 2600, have you turned HT off.?

i can run GTA IV on my laptop, with an i3 @ 2.53GHz
i only get lagg because the gpu sucks as its IntelHD
 
Believe me mate even on a desktop its a bitch to run. It helps to play at 1080 for me as i have such a sucky cpu, so my 6850 helps a lot, but there still lag from my cpu.

For gta gpu doesnt really mater that much other than vram, cpu, and ram etc take precedant,
