Hello, I am new to this site and need your advice please. I am not very tech oriented so am having difficulty comparing and knowing what to purchase. I just freeze up! I need to purchase a laptop to use solely for trading in the market. This laptop will not be used for anything else. No gaming, videos, music, emailing, surfing.....nothing but the trading platform in which I will be trading.
The MINIMUM computer specifications~ CPU: Pentium 1.5 GHz, Free hard disk space: 500 MB, Modem/Internet connection: 56 kbps modem (56 kbps is possible but not recommended. 56 kbps might present problems when downloading the installations and upgrades), Screen resolution: 1024 x 768
(16 bit), RAM: 512 MB (1 GB for Windows Vista and 1 GB for Windows 7).
The RECOMMENDED computer specifications~ CPU: Dual core processor, 2.5GHz, Free hard disk space: 1GB, Modem/Internet connection: 2 Mbps, Screen resolution: 1280 x 1024, true color (24 bit) colors. Multi screen setup is supported, RAM: 4 GB
SUPPORTED OPERATING SYSTEMS~Window 2000 SP4, Windows XP SP2 (except 64-bit), windows Vista, Windows 2003 and 2008 server and Windows 7.
I will get a mobile broadband service so I can trade wherever I am whenever the time is right. If anyone has advice on that service as well as what laptop please do not hesitate to voice your opinion.
As far as cost....I need to spend as little as possible but still meet the specifications. If I can purchase something that will suffice for $500, I need not to spend $600. As for the service, I need unlimited broadband. If I dont have unlimited, I will likely have overages that I will not be able to afford. I access this program (which is real time) numerous times a day and during volitale trading, several times an hour.
The smaller device the better as I will be carrying it with me when on the go.
Thanks and bless you for your comments.

For the needs you list I am sure you can find many great laptops to preform your tasks. All new laptops are today setup for wireless use. Two Megs of Ram will work four would be nice. A i3 or i5 Intel or any of the AMDs in same class will work well, I have both Intel&AMD both preform fine. I would try to get a 500 Harddrive. the 5400rpm will be fine. Besure to get one with a DVD drive as the small netbooks don't have them, just informing you in case you later think about a netbook.
If you are near a Best Buy or any place that sells computers, I would look at them and try them out. Good Luck.:)

I would personally suggest that you purchase a laptop from the actual company. I say this because even though Best Buy's Geek Squad is amazing the bench fees are typically outrageous and it can take weeks sometimes to get your computer fixed. I would personally go with Dell because you can, for the most part, customize the laptop to the specs you have listed. You will also have a much better technical support program, coming from personal experience. I use to own an Inspiron 9300 and the screen broke and I had a guy at my door to fix it by the end of the week.
