ok So i have a acer laptop ...and the battery recently died on it ....i was going to order a new battery but then i noticed that the power jack was sort of not charging sometimes and i had to push the pin in sometimes harder

i posted here and obviously i needed a new battery but i also needed either a new power jack or a new ac adapter

so someone told me to go to bestbuys geek squad so i did and the dude told me that the ac adapter was the problem...

so i ordered a new battery ($100) and a new ac adapter ($60)

now the battery works good..lasts 4 hours plus when charged...but the power jack i still have to push in sometimes or twist to charge

so what should i do?

A) Return the new ac adapter and keep the old one since neither works...
B) Return the new ac adapter and get my power jack fixed
C) is the problem something else?

laptops great...great speed never crashes...solid in all other aspects except this problem...i heard its a common problem so i thought i would post

actually i just called geek squad and they said they do this service for about $159...

considering the "online stores" are $125 on average...plus i pay for shipping...and the risk

$30 not being an issue with me...you guys think i should go for the dc jack repair?

ok im gonan return the ac adapter and get my 50 bucks back....now i just need $100 more...sucks to be a poor college student :-(

thanks for the help guys i really appreciated it

Could it be the contact point inside the laptop?
May need to take to a local shop to have a check...

I have come across several laptops with this same issue, and from what I have read I can pretty much assure you that it is the contact point on the laptop. Normally we dismantle the laptop, find the broken solder point, clean it up an re-solder the power point onto the laptop.

I have always been amazed on what a delicate point this is. After removing and inserting and removing and inserting the power plug on a laptop, I am surprised I don't come across more of them broken.

Don't fret, this is a problem any certified tech would be able to take care of for you. But I wouldn't give it to BB/GS, they will probably send it off to Kentucky if they can't send it to the mfg. I do know they don't really do this kind of repair at BB.

Good luck, let us know how it goes.

thanks for your help...so would you reccommend i send it off to one of the online repair shops? or maybe pay $20 extra and find a shop in Atlanta to do it here?
