Hey, my computer is sorta a piece and i was debating on wether to put this or not but... i figured what the heck.. I have a compaq presario 5000 (with windows Xp) its old i know dont laugh :( but i was wondering should i try to upgrade my computer if so what should i get...? or should i just start bulding a new computer and just forget about bringing this computer up to standards?

From the bit I found on that computer, it's time to upgrade fully. I don't think it would have too much room for a very noticable upgrade...

i don't know... i think that if i were to give him 512 megs of ram and he were to buy this graphics card http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&Item=8769473278 .. i don't see how he could go wrong for the price. 20 bucks is a lot different than a grand on a new computer :P

it has a 750mhz Duron, not gonna be able to do much their. Plus, we dono if it has agp slot or not. I think its time to scrap and rebuild.

actually it has a celeron @ 1.2ghz. not MUCH of a difference...

it does have an agp slot..

Time to start over dude :)

Hell, I have to kick start my computer :P

You can build a good computer at about 1K!

I'm building a damn good computer at 1.3K-1.4K USD

lol the way you talk money doesnt seem to be an issue... well why dont u send some of it this way =p .... but i need to think about price as well... but i guess inevitably i will end up building a new comp

this is what you should get:

AMD X2 4800+
x1900XTX
2GB Corsair XMS DDR400
DVD Burner
2x 250GB SATAII 16MB RAID
Creative X-Fi

nah im just kidding, but i do think its time for a full upgrade.

yeah, buy a new computer and use the old one for a server or to play around with... or even possibly install linux on it...

Theres several good things you could do.

You could use the machine for serving and playing around on (Try out different OS's and etc), which would be very productive considering how much you could learn.

Or you could give it a really good cleaning, both hardware and software, and sell it. Then save up and build your own computer.

I have a Pentium 3 which has proved to be very hardy throughout all my testing and playing around. I now use it for serving (SSH, ftp, http) fulltime :) .
