Ok, I need some HELP!! I want to upgrade my compuer but i just cannot do yet till i get more info. Im running into a FEW problems.

1. Graphics card- Want to get the 8800 gts 640mb graphics card, Dont realy care about the 8800 gt now. I keep hearing the release of the 9 series is november. I dont want to buy my graphics card now and in a few weeks BAM, 9 series is here. I want to get my pc stuff that will at least last me a year or 2, or more. So what should i do here or what info do you know?

2. Motherboard- I keep hearing pci express 2 is coming out soon(november as well). Im told its alot faster then pci express 16. Any idea when it will come out because again, i dont want to buy a motherboard and have to upgrade in a few weeks or lets say in a month or 2.

3. processer- Right now most games are better with dual core processers from what im told. Well are games in 2008 going to be better with quad core?
Or say would a e6850 will last me awhile with most games.

I am told that the geforce 8800 will not run well with dx10 games like crysis. Is that true.I want to get a card that can run games on high, does not have to be extra high but high is what im aiming for. Do you think say the 8800 will last me good threwout 2008 with most if not all games?

My build i want to make is for gaming mostly. What should i do!!!! Any info would be great. I know i cannot have all the NEW and BEST stuff outhere, but i just need something that will work good and last. Over time i could upgrade graphics card, processer, and motherboard and more but i just cannot do it all at once,,, again like im doing now(I havent upgraded my pc in along time). THx for the help, ALL info and opinions are appreciated!

You will be fine with a core duo and a 8800GTS. New technologies will always come out regardless of when you decide to purchase that is just how technology work. The stuff you have listed is top notch and will run all new games for the next few years quite well IMO.

why dont you list a full spec sheet on your current rig?

It would help people out. Also, you will need a pretty stout psu for the video card or so i hear.

I would wait until January. Like you said the new motherboards are coming out, and the new DX10.1 spec is to be released soon as well, which will only work on cards released with that spec, it will not work on the current cards. But DX10.1 will still be backwards compatible, but they current cards will not be able to take advantage of the new spec.

Prices on all the current parts will be dropping in the next couple of months as well. So you would be much better off by waiting.

There is allways bigger and better stuff coming out round the corner. I personally wounldn't get het up with concern over high perf hardware. Just dont waste your money on a computer just to play games.

He already aim to have 8800GTS 640MB, which cost around $300. So give me a reason of not buying a cheaper card with better performance.

I'm just saying you can't buy a bit of hardware and expect it to not to be superceded with in 2 months, so just get what you can afford.

But if you've got cash to burn then who cares

True, so my personally view is when getting new PC, get a mid-high range one, usually something like $1k - 1.2k. Then don't upgrade anything until can't play the game I want.

Yeah, a good example of this is my computer (see below) just bought World in conflict and runs acceptably well on medium. But my computer is showing its age, and if a reason permits me then i will build a new one, but atm everything is dandy

daisymtc has a realy good point and a few of you do. Realy will take all of this into consideration. I may just go ahead and get it and like JD said, no need to upgrade when evertything is running fine.

I may just go ahead and get upgrade my pc but may just get a cheaper graphics card that will do me for a few months or more till the 9 series comes out.(be great if anyone have an idea when the 9 series will come out, my opinion is its coming in nov or this year because the geforcve 88oo gt is realy cheap for its great capabilities, making me think that the 9 series is coming soon, very soon. Not realy sure at all.)

But one last thing which is seems EVERYONE has mixed opinions on. Dual vs quad for gaming. Keep hearing dual right now is better but quad will be later on when games work better with quad.My question is, are those games going to be coming out in the beginning of 2008 or late 2008 or later on?

Ok guys I finally got it to work. I reformated the computer again with the XP home and it didnt work again. So I went and borrowed my Friends XP Pro and it worked. Now the only problem is that I am missing the VGA driver. I looked all over the internet and cant find it. Does anyone know where I can find it? Its a Award Modular Bios V600PG

Dont quote me on this. but my understanding is that as games arn't being written to utilise the whole multicore technology thing. i.e. processing two different things at one given time. because apparently its just tooo dam hard for the programmers. so i can't see how 4 cores are going to help over 2 the game would still only use one core, and again tbh unless your doing very heavy CPU entensive stuff, i.e. Video encoding, your very unlikly to notice much difference between say a quad core versus a dual core. My advice at the current time is to stick with what is mainstream, Dual Core.

I suggest no one quote this

Dual core may be useful for NOW, but when quad core supported applications come out, the Core 2 Duo's would be smoked badly. Take (Maroon, HL2 right?) HL2, it supports Quads, and look at some of the benchmarks, Quad smoked C2D.

ok ha ha

But i'm sure very little software is actually written to utilise more than one core at a time?

Well, if that's true, then your basically saying that the best thing to do is buy one core

Yes, there are games/softwares that are written to utilize more than one core. I think on some games you can disable one or more... I may be wrong.

Wait till the new Quads come out, more efficient, better, and cheaper than any Quad out here. If you can't wait, get ClubIT's Q6600 with the G0 stepping.

Even though some programs are only dual-core optimized Windows will automatically set the background processes to run on the extra cores. I'd also get an eVGA card so if you want within 90 days you can upgrade your GFX card and only pay the difference.
