What should i do!!??

I am a gamer. Plain and simple. Its christmas time, and i plan on getting about $230 bucks cash. Thats what i am working with. My current system is: AMD 4000+, 1GB Stick DDR400 (pretty slow), ATI X1900 AIW PCIX16, and a slow IDE 100 hard drive. I do not know what to do. I could buy some dual channel gaming ram and a SATA 3.0 hard drive, or, i think i could sell my card for about 180 bucks. then i could have about 400 bucks to spend. Should i just go ahead and buy an X1950 XTX 512MB video card, but that would leave me with a slow hard drive and slow ram. what should i do??? Should i just bite the bullet and get a faster hard drive and ram, and possible an X FI gaming sound card, or should i just go with the video card. i am pretty sure i will see a greater difference in games if i go with the video card, but then i may lag in Vista...
 
Your X1900 AIW is fine, unless you don't think so :) (look in my sig :D)

I would say:
1. Hard drive
3. Get a whole new CPU/Processor/Ram combo
 
I also have a 4000+ and i won't be upgrading that for a long time..but I think you sholud upgrade your harddrive thats what I'm doing... right now I have a 5400rpm ide 80 gig drive I'm gonna go with the 10,000 rpm raptor should cut your read and write times in half or better.
 
but as a gamer a faster hard drive isnt really going to improve gameplay, of course load times will be quicker but your FPS aint gonna change

true but my drive is so slow it does effect me in game when it comes time to load something I get hard drive lag...If you really want to complete the gaming experience go with a xi-fi sound card...
 
Yeah, i am just trying to get the most bang for my buck. What do yall think about going with an 80GB raptor and a gig of dual channel PNY Verto Gaming ram. Its timings are lower then the XMS. But i dont know. See, if i get a gig of ram, i can take my single, slow, gig stick out, and trade it to my friend for a 250GB hard drive. but the hard drive is only IDE 100 with a 6MB buffer. So if i do that, i will be going from a slow 120GB to an 80GB raptor, and 370GB's of extra space.
 
that wouldn't be bad :) Even though the hard drive is slow, your raptor will cover the majority of what you need fast hard drive access time for.
 
Scratch that, i cant get a raptor. But i guess i will just go with some PNY Verto gaming ram, and a WD 250GB SATA-II 3.0GB/s
 
well, i mean, i dont really want to sell it but if i can get 170 bucks for it i can combine that money with 220 bucks, and get like a X1950... But i think that would be to much of a hastle... i dont know.
