Hello,

I'm new to this forum, so please take it easy on me if I say something dumb, or if I've posted in the wrong forum.

Anyway, I'm stuck in choosing a new graphics card. I currently have $400AUD, so my budget can go for a (my board is AGP, and if i were to change to PCI-E, it would end up costing me upwards of $550 -can't find a PCI-E board which uses AMD Athlon XP-):

MSI NX6600GT 128MB DDR3...$266
MSI NX6800 128MB.....$475
ASUS V9999/V9999GT 128MB $429/$495

I am aware that the 6800's shown are more than $400AUD, but I'll be able to fork out that extra money somehow.

What I'm trying to say, which card is superior out of the 6800's? Also, does anyone have different cards they recommend? I heard eVGA is REALLY good, but i can't find any in Australia (in shops).

System Specs:
AMD Athlon XP 2800+
Gigabyte GA-7VM400AM-RZ
MSI GeForce FX5700 VT2DR 256MB
1GB DDR400 RAM
Seagate Barracuda IV 160GB, Seagate 60GB
400w PSU (will upgrade when I buy the video card)

Thanks.

P.S: I realize there's plenty of video card recommendation threads here, but I don't have the time to search everyone...sorry if this a bother to anyone.

You seem to want to have a good gaming comp. Cause your comp specs don't seem too shabby. ASUS V9999/V9999GT with 128Mb!? I don't know if its wise to buy a GFX card with a bloody good chip and then have it as a 128Mb VRAM model. Atleast the memory has to be 256-bit.

128 is fine, all the cards he listed were 128 bit

Acturally all 6800 has a 256bit memory bus so only the 6600GT is 128bit memory bus out of the one he listed.

true, guess it matters if we're talking memory interface or memory size (ignoring the mistyped "bit" at the end of my post"
the sizes neothesecond776 is discussing it memory size, of which all the card listed where 128. But you are correct in what you say.

I realize that the 256-bit 6800's are obviously more powerful, but they (from what I've seen here) are very pricey, going way over my price range ($600+). I'll have to settle for these 128mb cards...and I'm sure they will be a welcoming upgrade from my 5700? Which would you guys recommend?

Thanks.
