What should i upgrade?

Ok fellas, you know I get the upgrade itch from time to time :)

I am looking at continuing my gear-whoring and I would like some ideas!

I don't want to upgrade the motherboard, cpu or RAM, as they're simply not even close to being maxed out on anything.

Any thoughts?

What.... can you upgrade? You seem to be pretty much maxed out as far as the general consumer market is concerned. Peripherals maybe?

1151 Motherboard, i7 6700K, 32GB DDR4-2800, Intel 750 SSD. Those are the only things you really need to upgrade, everyone else is either practically matched or wouldn't gain any performance.

There's always the 5690X but it seems like a pretty pricey jump just for another two cores and pretty minimal IPC gain (and you said no CPU, but that kind of goes for all of the components in your build).

4k surround displays? Really kind of grasping at straws here.
Maybe one of the NVMe PCI-E SSDs to replace your RAID setup.

I think what needs to be upgraded most is your aging storage solution (and I'd love to hear why you have a 40GB SSD dedicated for the PF). Upgrade to 32GB of RAM, no PF, and get a nice Intel 750 or SM951 M.2 drive for the OS and apps, and a 1-2TB 850 Evo for storage.

This is also an option.

Thanks guys, I doubt a new CPU and mobo would do anything performance wise. The 40GB PF is also a scratch disk for my CC work. The PCIe SSD is a good idea, but still, I cannot see what benefit in real world terms.

Ageing storage? I have WD Black in RAID5 8TB, it is fine for what I need. The 40GB PF is simply because I had a 40GB ssd lying around and it saves space. 2 x 840s are pretty quick too. What are the real world benefits you guys think id get.

PS I have Windows 10. 8.1 and 7 in tri-boot.

I think im looking at peripherals.

IM thinking a 144Hz IPS panel (may be with G-sync??), however I just bought the LGUM95, and its pretty nice. May be 2 more? They're only 60FPS using display port.

And Geoff, what would a i7 6700K give me that I don't already have with a 4820K at 5GHz?

I considered more RAM, but truly, ive never seen it go above 12GB an that is working with Sony HDV 4K video encoding.

Im thinking new keyboard and mouse. Recommendations?

Depends what you do, I max out my i7 3770K daily in Photoshop and Premiere Pro. That storage definitely is aging. Since it sounds like you want to blow money, you could gain performance by removing that ancient 40GB SSD, upgrading to 32GB of RAM, disabling your PF, and getting an NVME PCI-E SSD which has 4 fold performance increases from a single 840 SSD.

I have the G500S, which I like, but I do need a new keyboard as I spilt a litre of beer in my G15 lol.

@ Geoff, I use Adobe CC and its never gone over 50% maxed out. Renders using the 980Ti in SLI and I have two 840s in RAID 0. Also, I don't use CC that often and to get another 16GB Trident X 2400 to run at 26667 like I have now, seems to have little or no benefit.

Keep the ideas coming guys.

Id say 144hz IPS panel. I know asus are bringing a new ROG swift out with IPS and the current TN ROG swift is pretty darn amazing. 144hz is just much nicer than 60hz especially with the nice 1440p resolution and G-SYNC.

Not just for Gaming but general desktop use feels much smoother.
