Be careful, you could get in trouble even though you have a *, depending on how dragon is feeling.

SCSI is a type of hard drive interface, like IDE and SATA. Its supposed to be faster than both, but I have no idea if it is. Raid, in its simplest form, is using 2 hard drives to load data faster then just one hard drive.

SCSI is no faster than SATA at the moment but, maybe soon will be... RAID 0 is when you have two hard drives and when you save to it, the RAID controller breaks the file in half and each drive gets a half, for 4 drives, it will be divided by 4 and each drive will get 1/4th of that file.
RAID 1 is when you implement hard drives and however many hard drives you have, the RAID controller makes the same number of copies and each hard drive gets a copy.

It allows you to use up to 15 SCSI drives in a computer via a PCI add-on card. SCSI drives are popular with servers because they can have speeds up to a 15K RPM's, which mean higher transfer rates, and much faster access and read/write times when compared with most 7200RPM drives in desktops.

SCSI can be much faster then SATA, they have 15K RPM drive while SATA only has uo to 10K RPM's.

It doesn't do a darn bit of good if it's going without having it in the RAM quicker.
 
gotcha!! thanks guys. so basically these types of devices are used for servers mostly, right?

i mean, i'll be content without it.. just with my 2x250GB RAID-0.. ;)

yea.. it's basically a fast 500GB. plus, u can always extend it till 4x250Gb RAID-0, right? which is 1TB............ HOLY SHOOT!! i never thought i would live that long to ever see a TB hdd.. :)
 
Can SCSI transfer what it gathers from the 15k speed?

Yes. A single 15k SCSI drive will probably transfer around 88-120MB/s. And that card uses SCSI Ultra/320 so it has a transfer rate of up to 320MB/s on the cable...a little faster than SATA, yes? ;)

If you figure that the SATAII interface is 300MB/s, and SATA hard drives dont get anywhere near that, you dont have to worry about not having enough bandwidth to move the data. And as cromewell said SCSI can have up to a 320MB/s transfer rate, in addition to having 15K RPM drives.
