what the heck is the pci express x1 slot used for? I understand that the x16 slot is used for the faster video cards, but what the heck is that smaller slot next to it?

video card also.. 2 type.. apg and pci.. some have a... CRN? i think.. its for the network modems, lans.. etc..

The PCI-Express 1X is the new PCI slot, they replaced the old PCI slot with the new PCI-E 1X. It's faster, don't know how much but it's supposed to be faster and better.

There are 1x video cards from matrox, gigabit ethernet cards and hard drive controller/RAID cards

lol...my old Vectra had a 4MB AGP Matrox gfx card. i see they are still alive!

RAID cards would be useful.
