Latley, after using my computer for a few hours or more, I am getting the blue screen of death. I get the blue screen of death with this message

***Harware Malfunction
Call Your Hardware Vendor For Support
NMI: Parity Check/Memory Parity Error
***The System Has Halted***

And then i have to restart. Does anyone know what causes this error message?
It happens on my HP Vectra VL, P3, 256MB RAM, 10GB Maxtor HDD.

Would it be the RAM or HDD? Or something else?

This link shows a pic of what I see .... http://simone.seeto.com/NMI_error/index.html

oh i c that now, sry

Have you installed any new hardware or software recently? New ram? Dropped your computer, or anything close?

Most likely cause is your cpu or memory over heated, take cover off and see if there is alot of dust build up on heat sink and or blocked vents, if so spray everything out with compressed air! You should be able to get some at your local computer store! I see it's A p3 with 256mb of ram and a 10 gig hd so looks like ya got a pretty old pc. Have you ever cleaned it out?

Yeah I've cleaned it out, No dust build up or anything....BUT I am in Australia and it does get pretty hot here, we are going into summer now, so maybe that is why?

I tried swapping the RAM yesterday to brand new stuff, and it happened another 3 times within the hour. So, I swapped back to my old RAM, and so far, its been ok...weird.

Before that though, no new hardware, but I am constantly adding and deleting software. This is my muck around PC, I kinda like it when it breaks coz then I learn from it :D

maybe the RAM wasnt seated right?

Fingers crossed that that was all it was. I always thought though that if it wasnt seated properly, that it would fail sooner, than after 4 hours of using the PC.
