What the?

Ok so as some of you may have read in my topic on installing a new sata drive, i took a floppy drive out of a different computer, well my parents gateway desktop to be exact. Now, I put everything back in and connected everything. The computer turns on, but the monitor, mouse, keyboard, etc. do not seem to work or "power on". I am very confused as to why this is happening. I have a wireless network through that computer and that still works, so I can still surf the web on my laptop. Is it possible that i somehow fried the mobo? But the CD drives still work, so I am not very sure on what happened. Any opinions anyone would care to share?

It is a Gateway 500S Plus with a Socket 478 Intel Pentium 4 2.8 GHz processor (pretty sure on that), Gateway mobo, 256MB RAM, integrated video, Windows XP SP2, DVD Rom, NEC 8x DVD-RW, Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 80GB ATA/133 HDD

Monitor should work if plugged in power outlet. If no picture. Thats another thing. Mouse & Keyboard should work if the PC powers on itself unless you switched the ports around / got them backwards <>.

Also I never seen a fried mobo power on. Hence the word "fried". You have something plugged in the wrong spot.

That's what I thought at first too, but I have looked at all the connections, unplugged them, reconnected, double checked, and I still do not see anything wrong. I just put a video card into the PCI slot to see if i could at least get picture, but nope, same result...the monitor immediately goes to "power saving mode", none of the lights on the keyboard go on, and the bottom of the optical mouse doesnt "light up". So I am very lost here!
