What things to buy?

Hey, I asm looking to build my own pc (some of you ma have helped in my previous thread). Basically I would like some advice on what to buy to start with. The things I am concerned with at the moment are the following:

Processor
Motherboard
Memory (RAM)
Hard drive
Video Card
Optical Drive
Sound Card (Optional)

Also, how that would affect the case I choose and the power supply. Please make some suggestions, thanks!
 
go with a core 2 duo CPU
Asus MOBO
Corsair 1GB DDR2 ram
Nvidia video card
Western Digital HD
DVD-+RW


what's you buget?
what will you be using this for?
 
My budget is up to £1000, I want to get the best possible up to that really. I will be using it for gaming and music production - as well as the basics, like MS Occice etc lol
 
I think actually the main question I will ask in this thread is aboiut compatibility... what will I need to look out for the most? Which things are going to impact my choice on the others the most? Thanks
 
one thing to remember, happened to me before. i ordered oem parts and they didn't come with cables. i had to order cables and wait another 3-4 days to finish the build (at least it wasn't for me, he he).
