I receive an email which is certainly a spam mail, but it was sent in May 1980 and sometimes in 1974.......... Isn't email sent theoretically instantaneous or just a very little time gap? How do those free email service e.g. hotmail ,yahoo determine the time of sending? Does it depend on the server time of the sender?

simply, they could not have been sent in 1980 or 1974, If my information is correct at that time there was no publicly available internet at that time.

I think it may have something to do with the time setting on the original sending server, but that is doubtful as the incorrect date can screw up your ability to use secure connections, which all emails use.

but the problem is the spam email are really sent with the date in 1980 or 1974 something, to my Yahoo email. How can the security system of Yahoo be so bad? I don't doubt that the email was not sent in 1974 or 1980 but i doubt that the security system of yahoo mail is really that bad about date.

I would think it would be for you at your account to mark as spam and automatically delete every time its received. Some are and some not. And then not all is spam and I mark as not spam.
