What to buy??

The x800XT is a better performer than the 7600GT is, the only thing that the x800XT/x850XT lack are SM3 support, as well as some of the newer technologies found in the 7xxx series.

So the x800XT would be the best choice if they are the same price.
 
Exactly, because the 7600 still uses a 128-bit memory bus. IIRC, SMIII hasn't become a req. for anything yet...
 
ok ive got the X800XT, my mate said that i should be able to max out the settings on half life 2, but he wasnt sure if HDR would take it, will it??
 
I'm not sure about maxing out, because I don't know many particular games that well, (IIRC, the original half-life had requirements as Video Card=Reccomended), has this changed in HL2? Whats HDR?
 
HDR is some lighting affect my mate told me, when turned on it makes the lightning like crazy.

hey just a thought, will the X800XT work on the DFI NF4 SLI Expert? seein as it is a nvidia board, will the x800xt work???
 
ATI graphics cards work fine with nVidia chipsets and vice versa, they have really nothing to do with eachother, just that you can't run crossfire on a nVidia board, or SLI on an ATI chipset board. But, that's not an issue here.

ok guys, thanks for all ya help. ive got the x800xt on the way. umm no wi need help with an LCD?? i was loookin at 17" but my mate said i should just save a bit more and go for a 19", is it really that much better? what screen should i go for, remmbering that im in the aus.

I can max HL2 settings on my X700 Pro, and still get around 60FPS. And yes, HDR will work, but I believe HL2 is the only game it will work in, since I think it's the only game that has HDR that works on SM2.0.

I don't know of any places that ship to aus, but I can tell you, as long as your 17" LCD supports 1280x1024, you'll be plenty happy.
 
but its like only another 100 bux or so to go to 19", is it worth saving the extra 100 or so, or just goin with the 17"??

and...the stock fan on the X800XT, is it any good at keepin the temps down?
